Who we are. Skryve is a browser extension operated by an independent developer based in the United Kingdom. We are the "controller" of your personal data under UK and EU data protection law. Contact: skryve.support@gmail.com.
1. What Skryve does
When you press Extract insights on a YouTube or Rumble video, Skryve:
- fetches the video's public transcript and details;
- looks at frames from the video;
- sends them to AI models;
- shows you a summary, insights, clips, topics and answers to your questions.
If you choose, it also analyses the video's public comments. Nothing is analysed until you press the button. Skryve does not read or record your browsing outside the video pages you choose to analyse.
2. What we collect and why
Your account
- When you sign in with Google we receive your email address, name, Google account ID and profile picture.
- We use them to create your account, show you as signed in and apply your plan's limits.
- We never receive your Google password.
Your plan and usage
- Your plan (Free or Pro), subscription status and dates.
- Your credit balance and when it next resets.
- A record of each time credits were used or given back: what for (a video, a question or a comment analysis), how many, which video and when.
- Your timezone.
- A flag if an account is suspended for abuse.
- A flag if a payment on the account is disputed with your bank, which stops the account buying Pro until the dispute ends.
Your history
- Which videos you analysed and when, so you can reopen, search and ask questions across them.
- Kept until you remove an item, clear your history or delete your account.
Your questions
- Questions you ask about a video or its comments are stored without your account ID, alongside the video they were about, to help us improve answers.
- Please don't type personal information into questions.
- Answers you see are kept in your browser.
Video data (not about you)
- For each analysed video we store the transcript, title, description, channel, duration, thumbnail links, the analysis, and search data built from them.
- This describes the video, not you. It is usually shared between all users who analyse the same video.
- Frames:
- On YouTube, frames usually come from YouTube's own preview images, which our server loads by link.
- On Rumble, and on YouTube videos that only offer small preview images, Skryve builds low-resolution frames in your browser and uploads them for the scan. They are deleted once the scan is done or you start another video, and in any case within one hour.
- An analysis made from frames built in your browser is kept for you only, not shared with other users.
- We do not keep copies of video frames.
- Comments:
- We fetch public comments when you ask for a comment analysis.
- Commenter names, handles and @mentions are removed before comments reach any AI model or are stored.
- Comment text itself can occasionally identify someone; we keep it only for a short time (see section 5).
Payments
- Handled by our payment provider. You are in one of two cases:
- UK, US and Canadian customers: we are the seller; the payment provider processes the payment.
- Customers elsewhere: our merchant-of-record partner is the seller and handles tax. It is named at checkout.
- They collect your card or payment details and billing address. We never see your card number.
- We receive your subscription status, plan, billing country and a customer reference.
Technical data
- Requests to our server carry your account ID, the time and the action. They are kept in server logs for up to 7 days for security, abuse prevention and fixing errors.
- Our hosting provider sees your IP address when serving requests.
- Short-lived rate-limit counters (about 10 minutes) stop abuse.
- Short notes about failures, such as a failed analysis or a payment error, so we're alerted to problems. They hold no video content and no questions, and are kept for 30 days.
Stored in your browser
- A local copy of recent analyses (cleared after 7 days, on sign-out or on uninstall).
- Your answers.
- Your last few history questions, as text only.
- Settings such as theme and recent searches.
- If you opt in to usage statistics, a random ID (see below).
Usage statistics (optional, off by default)
- Only if you turn on Share anonymous usage stats in Account, we send anonymous usage events to an analytics provider, for example:
- that an analysis started or finished;
- which tab you opened;
- that a question was asked.
- Some events carry fixed details:
- the site (YouTube or Rumble);
- a rough video length (such as "10–30 minutes");
- whether a saved summary was used;
- an error code.
- They are linked only to a random ID created in your browser.
- They never contain your name, email, account ID, the videos you watch, their titles or channels, page addresses, or your questions or searches.
- They pass through our own server, so the analytics provider doesn't receive your IP address from us.
- Turning it off stops them at once and deletes the random ID.
Our website
- When you visit our website, we measure how it's used with an analytics provider, for example:
- which pages you view and how far you scroll;
- which buttons you click, such as Add to Chrome;
- the site that sent you, and your rough location (country) and device type.
- This uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Visits are counted with a code that changes every day, so we can't recognise you across days or link visits to your account.
- We don't record your screen or what you type.
3. Our legal bases (UK and EU)
- To provide the service you asked for (contract): your account, history, usage limits, analyses and payments.
- Legitimate interests: security, abuse prevention, error logs, measuring how our website is used, improving answers from questions stored without your account ID, and comment analysis with names removed.
- Consent: optional usage statistics.
- Legal obligation: tax and accounting records for payments.
4. Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with service providers that run Skryve on our behalf, under contract, and only what each needs:
- Hosting and database providers: store your account, history and video data, and run our server.
- AI and machine-learning providers: receive the video content needed for an analysis (transcript, video details, frames, comments with names removed) and the questions you ask. They never receive your name or email.
- Data providers: receive a video's ID to fetch its public transcript and comments.
- Payment providers: our payment provider and, for customers outside the UK, US and Canada, our merchant-of-record partner. They handle payments, tax and fraud prevention.
- Google: for sign-in.
- An analytics provider: website usage as described in section 2 and, only if you opt in to usage statistics, the anonymous events described there.
Training
- We don't use your personal data, history or questions to train AI models.
- AI providers receive only what each request needs, never your name or email. The service that routes our AI requests keeps a log of them, and providers may keep or use that content under their own terms, for example to improve their services. That content is:
- public video content;
- the question you asked, stored without your account ID.
Other disclosures
- We may change providers.
- We may disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect Skryve and its users from fraud or abuse.
- If Skryve is ever sold or transferred, your data would move with it under this policy, and we would tell you.
5. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account, plan and history | until you delete it or your account |
| Questions (without account ID) | until no longer needed |
| Video data (transcripts, analyses, search data) | 6 months from when the video was last fetched |
| Comment analyses | up to 14 days, shorter for new videos |
| Frames built in your browser | deleted after the scan, at most 1 hour |
| Credit balance and record of credit use | for as long as your account exists |
| Server logs | up to 7 days |
| Failure notes (no video content or questions) | 30 days |
| Payment records | as long as tax law requires (in the UK, typically 6 years), held by our payment provider and us |
| Browser cache | 7 days, or until sign-out or uninstall |
When you delete your account, data tied to it is deleted at once from our live database. Backups expire within 30 days.
6. International transfers
Some providers are in the US. Where your data leaves the UK or EU, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as:
- the UK International Data Transfer Addendum;
- EU Standard Contractual Clauses;
- the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension.
7. Your rights
- Delete your account at any time in Account → Delete account. This cancels any active subscription and deletes your data as above.
- Access, export, correct, restrict or object: email skryve.support@gmail.com. We reply within one month.
- Withdraw consent to usage statistics at any time in Account.
- Complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local EU data protection authority. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.
- California and other US states: you have similar rights to know, delete and correct. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising.
8. Children
Skryve is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
- Data travels over HTTPS.
- Database access is limited to your own records.
- AI and vendor keys are kept on our server, never in the extension.
- If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Skryve's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements:
- Data is used only to provide Skryve's features.
- It is not sold.
- It is not used for advertising or creditworthiness.
- It is not read by humans, except with your permission, for security, or as the law requires.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will show a notice in the extension and update the date above.
